Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera

I’ve long been waiting for a handy professional camera that does twice the job and can even cater to digital video camera’s concussive capabilities. I saw different models that take the long rope to making this level of success but none so far have made it… not until I found the new Lumix DMC-FZ200 from Panasonic. While the said company wasn’t a real bagger for the best DSLRs of today, I am still overwhelmed by how this model did the job I was looking for.

While this camera is a bit expensive at $533 for the lowest so far, there’s a lot to talk about in this very compact digital camera. Cased in a body dimension of 4.92×3.43×4.33”, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 weighs 1.30lb, making it very handy though you need a little help from your other hand. With a classic body predictive of the vintage superzoom designs, we do not lack essential buttons and controls plus the rubberized grip and a very solid thumb rest for extended comfort without the slip.

We do not only have one Fn button for easy access to functions and settings, but three, and these are scattered well in the body of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 to avoid confusion while shooting at rare opportunities. And to make shooting techniques more than a variety, there’s a lever that’s stamped with the lens barrel to support zoom or focus in an added level. Zooming is steady and clean in this new Lumix with the very substantial body, making this camera more than a casual professional camera.

More with the additional controls are those found on the barrel instead of trying to have them crowded on the top right of the engine. Aside from the said level for zoom or focus support, we also have a triple focus switch that can instantly switch between AF, AF macro, or manual in just a snap. For the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200’s asset, the new Leica-branded lens is quite big, but is so compact if you’ll know that it is equivalent to a 25-600mm in range.

Finally for the controls, we have the usual direct camera shoot button, a mode dial, the shutter button with zoom lever ringed around it, a dial that keys to four links from ISO to self-timer, a pop-up flash, and a very gorgeous 3” 460k-dot display that can pop and twist for up to 180 degrees for maximum angled shooting. We also have a 0.21” EVF that, when compared to the latest DSLRs, has the highest resolution with perfect frame coverage.

Consistent with the superzoom technology for more than a decade now, Panasonic continues to boast of the feature especially in this design from the Lumix Series. With a native optical zoom of 24x (which is already a contagious fame material), the device also comes with a digital zoom of up to 4x. Maximum resolution terminates at 4k x 3k, and can play along with different aspect ratios for both still and video coverage. With just a sensor size of 1/2.33”, Panasonic blazes hot and smoking with its new Venus Engine VII FHD. Overall, I am mesmerized and stunned with the camera’s 12fps burst shooting at full resolution, a very swift 120fps HD Video (240 for VGA), full HD 1080p video in AVCHD or MP4 format in 60p, and a smooth RAW and JPEG processing.

Other features that you’d like to know in the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 are: different autofocus modes (multi-area, center, tracking, continuous, single, face-detection, etc.), 23-point focus system, intelligent exposure and scene modes (aperture and shutter priority, creative video and creative control, portrait to soft skin, panorama, panning, night scenery, HS, Glass shots, 3D, etc), an additional shoe for external flash, internal memory of 70MB, and a solid 530-shot battery.

I see the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 a real strong spice to the world of photography. Within its price range, you can rarely encounter a camera with the same processing and zooming capacity. I’ll sure feel great and contented with this design, and I hope you do as well.
