Toshiba Excite 13 Android Tablet

I don’t think everyone would dream of having a big tablet computer as a fashion variable because aside from the bulkiness, people would still prefer those which can be easily categorized as ‘portable’ by specs and design. When Toshiba released the 13” Excite, which is literally longer than a 1-foot 4th-grader ruler, I was not totally impressed. I decided then to still give it a deep peek and share what I think of it if it is really a must-have or not.

The question I think one is supposed to ask is “What big can I get from this big screener-tablet?” As for the Toshiba Excite 13, the NVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad-Core CPU is really bumpy on the road to extreme performance. If you compare this to an average notebook, this is already fast enough for you to perform multiple jobs at the same time. Adding more to this operating power is the Google Android 3.0 OS (which, I think, is a bit late already) that can be upgraded to better and newer versions depending on availability.

The screen resolution of 1600×900 of the Toshiba Excite 13 already possesses a good smile for HD visitors, though for a 13-incher tablet, one may still ask for a sharper picture quality. According to some friends of mine, the display is already smooth enough and satisfying for games and videos on the fly. Though this resolution may already be assertive enough to tell you not to leave your couch, the weight, which is 2.2 pounds is not that friendly in some ways.

Since the screen of the Toshiba Excite 13 can display a lot of items, there are some pages or interfaces that need a little trim. Icons are sometimes all shown at once that make it look too crowded or overloaded. Though you can, yes, customize the look, a more proper layout may work a lot better to give satisfying experience.

The aluminum casing is also a good thing with this sturdy Toshiba Excite 13 you might want to bring. The polished metallic design is already an eye candy without sacrificing durability and reliability. The display is also coated with the modern Corning Gorilla Glass to help provide peace of mind to users who worry about scratches and unwanted bumps.

The ports are, however, well arranged and can be easily located. A big change in the Toshiba Excite 13 is the dual external speakers that are large enough to blast a bass boom especially when powered with the SRS audio enhancement. Adding to the structure also for both the front and the back are cameras that can shoot still images under normal light. However, images captured are somewhat not acceptable if one really wanted something worth posting on his or her social media site.

I think one of the big things also that made the Toshiba Excite 13 is the pre-loaded set of applications to help ‘bloat’ the internal. Some applications like Adobe Reader, Hardwood Card Games, Netflix, and some Google apps come very handy to this wide-screen tablet.

The 37.2Wh battery of the Toshiba Excite 13 is heavy in extracting juice also. Per recorded and comparison, the Excite 13 scored 9 hours and a few minutes, which is already consumable for almost a day. While it is not as powerful as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, this Excite model can still do a lot of multitasking within the said span of time.

My verdict is that, this Excite 13 model from Toshiba is obviously big—both in shape and performance. With this on your both palms, you can see a lot, do a lot, process a lot without waiting for a lot. If you are the type of guy who just wanted to stay home during weekends over a night-out invitation, then sure this will keep your eyes open and entertained.

Words cannot really speak out everything about this massive $650-device from Toshiba. What’s your share?
