Olympus Tough TG-820 Digital Camera Price in Singapore, Features, and Tech Specs

Olympus Tough TG-820 Digital Camera Price in Singapore, Features, and Tech Specs: The Tough TG-820 is a rugged compact digital point and shoot digital camera from the company who pioneered the ruggedized devices, Olympus. One of its strengths (aside from its obvious sturdiness) is that it is relatively easy to use and overall has an outstanding performance. It also comes with a variety of digital filters and shooting modes. The camera is waterproof to up to 10m, freeze-proof to -100C, shockproof to up to 2 meters, and even crash proof to up to 100kg.

Physically, the Olympus Tough TG-820 looks nice. It has a reassuring weight, and has a solid compact build. Overall, it has this tough appeal. While most tough cameras would have a polycarbonate-based material as their chassis, the front of the Tough TG-820 contains an inset metal plate that not only adds good aesthetic to the device, but also confers to it an added protection. The back on the other hand has a thumb rest that is also made out of metal. Aside from giving the device a good grip, it also serves as an attachment point for a wrist-strap. The battery is housed in a fully sealed chamber that can be accessed using a two-part lock mechanism, like in many other waterproof cameras.

There is an impressive 3-inch LCD screen on the rear of the Olympus Tough TG-820 that has a thick glass covering, and a class-leading 1.03 million dot screen, unlike many other rugged cameras that have very low resolution display. Aside from being an excellent medium for pictures or video playbacks, the screen also has an excellent display even under bright conditions. It seems that there is no rugged camera out yet that has a similarly good quality display.

The Olympus Tough TG-820 uses a lens that has an optical zoom of up to 5x, and has a 35 mm focal range equivalent of between 28-140 mm. The lens has a folded design that keeps it housed entirely in the camera’s body. Aside from that, it is shielded by a metal screen, which adds protection. The screen automatically slides back when the camera is switched on, and then closes when the camera is off.

Performance wise, the shootings modes of the Olympus Tough TG-820 comes in a fully automatic variety. There is a nice selection of modes including Program mode that offers the user a certain degree of control over key settings such as ISO and white balance. There is also an iAuto (or Intelligent Auto) scene recognition mode that picks a default scene mode depending on the environment in which the shot is taken. Aside from this, there is a Beauty mode for enhancing portraits, and a lot of Scene modes. On top of these, there are 12 Magic Filter digital effects, as well as a panoramic mode for a one-touch ultrawide-angle photography.

The Olympus Tough TG-820 has a Single-shot mode that can shoot at around seven full resolution frames for every ten seconds. It is also capable of sequential or continuous shots that can take around 50 consecutive images at full resolution before the camera begins to slow down. The Olympus Tough TG-820 is capable of shooting videos at 1080p Full HD that can be backed up by a 720p and VGA quality capture. The sound recording is in mono though.

The Olypmus Tough TG-820 comes with two additional High-Speed drive modes that offers capture rates of 15 fps and 60 fps for High1 and High 2 respectively. Each can take 100 consecutive shots but at a reduced image resolution of 3 MP. Using the advanced drives, autofocus is pretty much instant. It has a LED AF-assist on the front and comes with a single central focus box and a very reliable face detection option. There is a Tap Control feature that is a rather ingenious way to control the camera simply by tapping on the sides, top, and bottom of the unit. This is especially great when wearing thick outdoor gloves.

Overall, the Olympus Tough TG-820 is a pretty awesome camera and is definitely one of the top choices for a rugged camera currently in the market.
