Toshiba Satellite P855 Laptop Computer Price in Singapore, Features, and Specs

Toshiba Satellite P855 Laptop Computer Price in Singapore, Features, and Specs: The Satellite P855 from Toshiba is a mid to high-end, non-ultrabook laptop computer that, aside from some top-level specs, also tows with it a 3D screen, something that the user need not bother pairing up with 3D glasses. It uses a special kind of technology called lenticular technology that makes use of the laptop’s built-in webcam to detect the user’s head movement, and consequently adjusts the display for a well-delivered 3D viewing experience. Also, it has a rather appealing aluminum-lined plastic chassis that makes it look and feel like a premium device. The device was announced last March 5, 2012, and is currently available only as pre-released models.

Externally, the Toshiba Satellite P855 seems like any other laptop in the market. Its dimensions are pretty average or mid-sized – not exactly enormous as to seem like a desktop replacement, but not tiny either. It comes up to around 15.6 inches in terms of display, and has a thickness that’s not even close to an ultrabook’s slimness. It feels premium yet not bulky as to discourage portability.

The Toshiba Satellite P855 comes in a two-toned black and silver color, with two different designs – one with a brushed-metal finish and one that is more textured. The two versions are available separately so there’s an opportunity for the user to choose that suits his or her taste better. The unit comes out evenly built and very compact, with none of the flex and softness (on both the keyboard and lid) that comes with a cheap casing. However, it lacks the all-metal unibody design like the MacBook Air and the bottom is finished with plastic rather than metal.

The Toshiba Satellite P855’s keyboard has the standard Chiclet-style keys that, although shallow, have well-defined clicks. The user has a choice of either going for a backlit keyboard or something more ordinary. The trackpad on the other hand is large, and tends towards being a clickpad rather than having individual mouse buttons. As part of the P8 series, the Satellite P855 also comes with an optical drive with the user being able to choose between a pretty standard multi-writer and a Blu-ray readable optical drive.

The Toshiba Satellite P855 comes armed with a full suit of port and slots: 4 USB v 2.0 or USB 3.0 ports, a Gigabit Ethernet socket, a power socket, a standard 3.5 mm audio and microphone jacks, an HDMI video output, as well as a grill outlet to let out heat. There are two Harman/Kardon speakers above the keyboard that offer decent audio. Two of the USB ports can be used to charge electronic devices even if the laptop is turned off.

As mentioned, the Toshiba Satellite P855 has a glasses-free 3D screen. It is more like an upgrade to the more conventional P850. There is a definite 3D effect that works quite well although the use of the camera really does ensure a better experience since even a slight move of the head tend to distort and compromise the effect.

Unfortunately, there is no news yet on the exact hardware specs of the Toshiba Satellite P855. It is expected however to use Intel processors and an individual NVIDIA chip for its graphics processor, which expectedly will boost the laptop’s gaming performance. The device is also expected to have either a 1TB worth of hard drive or a 750GB / 8GB SSD hybrid storage solution, with the latter capable of providing faster boot times.

The Toshiba Satellite P855 glasses-free 3D screen model will sell for a significant premium, much more than the starting price of the other P855 series that is £599. The exact price for this is not known yet as well as the intended release date.
