Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG Price in Singapore, Features, and Specs

Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG Price in Singapore, Features, and Specs: The Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG is another entry into the rapidly growing market of ultrabooks. Basically, ultrabooks from Intel is defined by thin laptops. They should be les than 0.8-inch thin, sports a second-generation Intel core processor, long battery life, and is basically capable of waking up in merely seconds. The MacBook Air has astounded everyone with its unique design and approach to this guideline, and every other company seems to have been clamoring to mirror Apple’s ultrabook since then. But not Acer.

With the Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG, the company creates a different ultrabook, something that might just as well redefine the ultrabook market. It has a dedicated graphics chip, the first-ever ultrabook to feature NVIDIA chip that can actually play very extensive games. It is also notched up to having a 15-inch screen, joining in on the wave of large screen ultrabooks that include the Samsung Series 9 and the HP Envy 14 Spectre. It also has a built-in DVD drive.

The Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG looks ravishing on the outside. The chassis of the device is made of plastic but it is textured and has a black matte finish so it comes out as rather handsomely crafted with the light gleaming off of its surface. It is nice to the touch and is even fingerprint resistant. The lid itself has been inlaid with an aluminum coating so it feels cool. However, the build quality doesn’t come off as good as its aesthetics. It can still feel rather flimsy especially at the DVD drive end and on the keyboard.

Although it has clean lines, the body construction of the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG has a certain level of hollowness and doesn’t necessarily come off as rock-solid. It seems like a budget laptop, unlike the premium category it should be in. The keyboard itself is compressed into the pad and has shallow keys. There also no backlighting, and overall, the keyboard comes out as rather generic. There is a large multi-touch trackpad but it doesn’t deliver as smoothly as others, with scrolling and multi-touch tending to lag at some points.

The ports on the other hand line the back of the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG instead of being on the side as what other ultrabook makers do. There is the AC jack, the Ethernet and HDMI ports, and even the headphone jack is located at the back. Ergonomically, this puts the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG users at a disadvantage. The left side contains the optical drive door and next to it is the SD card slot.

As for the display, even though the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG features a 15.6-inch screen, it was largely a disappointment. The screen only has a maximum resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels that is absolutely subpar with the graphics chip the company’s offering. It has disappointing viewing angles and lacks crisp colors. On the other hand, there are built-in stereo speakers located under the front edge of the laptop, just under the palm rest. Although they do have decent volume, they fall short in terms of quality sound reproduction.

As mentioned, the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG is the first ultrabook (and certainly not the last) to feature a next generation NVIDIA Kepler graphics chip, specifically the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 M. It performs well at this end, giving out supreme graphics that is unmatched by any ultrabook so far. Acer has offered several processor configurations that can go well with the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG. One configuration for instance consists of 1.7 GHz second-generation Intel Core i7-2637 M processor, 4 GB worth of RAM, and 256 GB SSD.

The Core i7 version with the 256 GB SSD configuration of the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG is expected to sell for 1299 Euros, while a Core i3 version would sell for a starting price of 699 Euros, which makes the laptop a daunting competitor in the sub-$1000 mainstream laptop market. As for other configurations, there is no official announcement yet. The US equivalent prices are also yet to be announced.

The Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG is a good machine with high-end features but there have been obviously some tradeoffs. Overall though, the device shouldn’t just be considered as a thin laptop, rather it should be something that is regarded to be capable of handling demanding tasks.
