BlackBerry Torch 9860 Smartphone Price in Singapore, Features, and Tech Specs

BlackBerry Torch 9860 Smartphone Price in Singapore, Features, and Tech Specs: The Torch 9860 is an elegant smartphone from BlackBerry. It was announced August of last year and was released into the market the month after. It is one of the largest touchscreen ever made by RIM featuring the Blackberry OS7.

Design-wise, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 is somewhere between the typical BlackBerry phone and Samsung’s Galaxy line. It is sleek and stylish with an all black finish that endows it most definitely with the Blackberry air. The back plate is made of metal although the smartphone is mostly covered in plastic. The important thing however is that it still feels high in quality, with no cheap weakness in its build.

The BlackBerry Torch 9860 measures 120 x 62 x 11.5 mm, just a bit larger than the iPhone 4, and weighs 135 grams, which is pretty much at the average end. The smartphone also has a curved design that makes it comfortable to hold.

There are only five physical buttons on the Torch 9860 and these are all located on the lower bevel. These correspond to Call, Menu, Select, Escape, and End/Power. In the middle of the central button is an optical trackpad, which although a bit odd in a touchscreen device, was put there to augment the interface.

On the left side of the BlackBerry Torch 9860 is the microUSB port and on the right are the volume rocker, the mute key, and Convenience key. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is also located on this side, which is an annoyance really because it makes it hard to pocket the device while using a pair of earphones. In addition to the ports mentioned, there is also a Lock button located on the top of the smartphone.

On the back of the BlackBerry Torch 9860 is a 5 MP camera with LED flash. It is 2592х1944 pixels in resolution with continuous autofocus, geo-tagging, image detection, and face detection capabilities. The camera is also able to capture videos at 720p. There are several modes featured in the software including portrait, sports, landscape, and night.

The overall specs of BlackBerry Torch 9860’s camera don’t differ from all the other Torches except for some tweaking on the software. The Convenience key previously mentioned can be used as a shutter button and an autofocus button when pressed halfway. The shutter is quick and captures images almost instantaneously. The smartphone has no secondary camera on the front for video calling.

As mentioned, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 runs on BlackBerry OS 7. In addition, it utilizes a 1.2 GHz QC 8655 central processing unit and houses 4 GB worth of internal storage, which is expandable to up to 32 GB using a microSD card. It has 768 worth of RAM and contains the usual array of sensors: accelerometer, proximity, and compass.

Interface-wise, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 has a user-friendly appeal. Although the homescreen looks very similar to the BlackBerry OS 6, the icons are changed somewhat; they now have more solid look and brighter colors. Otherwise, the layout is still pretty much intact. There is an added voice search capability although the search feature is only capable of searching through the phone memory and not in Google.

Other features of the BlackBerry Torch 9860 include a GPS with A-GPS support, HSDPA with 14.4 Mbps speed and HSUPA with 5.76 Mbps speed, and Wi-Fi connectivity at 802.11 b/g/n. The device uses a standard 1230 mAh lithium ion battery that can last up to 330 hours in standby, 6 hours and 50 minutes with continuous talk time, and 44 hours with music play.

Overall, the BlackBerry Torch 9860 is a perfectly decent and competent handset. It has a smart and stylish design, is easy to use, and has a selection of decent features. It can appeal to the average consumer as well as to those in the corporate area.
